Chief Estimator (Steel Fabrication)
We are seeking a Chief Estimator with advanced knowledge of structural steel estimating and Tekla PowerFab, specifically Estimodeling, to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in structural steel fabrication estimating and a thorough understanding of shop labor codes, assigning appropriate labor hours, and creating estimating specific documents post-sale to ensure smooth transition to project management. They should also be able to create and maintain 3D models in Tekla.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of estimators by assigning project/estimating specific tasks to ensure bids are complete and meet project timelines.
- Manage the preparation and review of detailed cost estimates for structural steel fabrication projects, utilizing Tekla Estimating and Estimodeling software.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and other documents to determine the scope of work and identify any potential issues or challenges.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of the project are considered in the estimate.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive cost database for use in estimating future projects.
- Prepare and submit bids, proposals, and other documents to clients and potential clients.
- Track and analyze industry trends and market conditions to ensure competitiveness of project estimates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.
- Create job budgets post-sale and provide guidance on project costing to project managers.
- Work with the project management team to identify and mitigate any potential cost overruns or other issues that may arise during the project.
- Create and maintain 3D models in Tekla.
- Establish and maintain shop hour standards within Tekla.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural steel fabrication estimating, with advanced knowledge of Tekla Estimating and Estimodeling software.
- Expertise in shop labor codes, houring, and creating job budgets post-sale.
- Experience in creating and maintaining 3D models in Tekla.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- A commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
