Job Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)
Strategy
- Execution of engineering goals and objectives as set by the Director of Engineering.
- Provides input to the development of product strategy and long-range product development plans.
- Establishes and implements controls engineering standards consistent with Shred-Tech objectives.
- Maintains accurate workflow scheduling on behalf of the controls engineering group.
- Interfaces with all Shred-Tech functional areas to ensure accurate interpretation of all schematics and bills of materials and control logic.
- Responsible for advising the Director of Engineering when there is concern that these targets are at risk.
Product
- Assist in developing project plans, budgets and schedules that are achievable and satisfy business requirements.
- Technical and product support to Service, Quality Assurance, Production & Purchasing requirements
- Responsible for adhering to Shred-Tech Project Management Procedure as laid out in ST Quality System.
- Responsible for advising the Director of Engineering when there is concern that these targets are at risk
- Responsible for all aspects of project management and technical content for all control systems of assigned projects; including but not limited to programming of panels and system controls.
- Performs/supervises equipment testing to ensure performance expectations are validated.
- Accountable for ensuring that the scope control, function, budget, cost, schedule, and timing targets for the electrical and controls portion of each project are achieved.
- Carry out assignments of considerable variety requiring a sound understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
- Create, maintain, and measure performance of relevant control engineering procedures and processes.
- Prepares engineering documentation, drawings, schematics, BOM’s, ECN’s and portions of product manuals relating to the electrical and control systems.
- Contributes to sales proposal drawings using CAD skills to assemble electrical components and schematics.
- Calculates system power requirements.
Team
- Responsible for supervision of projects they have been assigned to manage.
- Sales support.
- Service support.
- Quality Assurance support.
- Production support.
- Other engineering project support as required.
Financial
- Propose and lead cost improvement opportunities.
- Work with Director of Engineering to develop annual departmental expense budgets and staffing requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Engineering Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
P.Eng eligibility and Professional Project Management Certificate would be an asset.
Experience: 8-10 years industry experience;
Electrical System concept and design experience, including experience in PLC programming, electrical cabinet layout and design
Strong project management skills
Working knowledge of North American and European Safety Codes.
Specific Skill, Ability and Knowledge:
2D Drafting software (AutoCAD/Draft Sight); Electrical-based software a major asset (SolidWorks Electrical/AutoCAD Electrical)
Strong knowledge of CSA requirements a must; CE/UL/NEC an asset
PLC programming - Omron, Allen-Bradley, Siemens a must
Other programming skills - Danfoss Plus+1/structured text an asset
Epicor/MRP knowledge
MS office, teams, etc.
Demonstrates professional communication skills in dealing with customers and suppliers.
Interacts with Sales, Service, Purchasing and Manufacturing personnel in a professional, mature fashion.
Travels to customer’s site to commission project, as required.
