The Position 

The EHS Intern provides technical and tactical regulatory compliance support to operating sites across all HEICO business platforms. This position is a critical player in a matrix management structure that includes site EHS personnel, Group and Corporate EHS leaders. 


Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support EHS directives in a timely manner, leading to the successful completion of projects.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating safety programs and supporting training including but not limited to Lock-Out Tag Out, exposure control, Hazard communication, electrical safety, confined space, hazard assessment and PPE program.
  • Assist in performing environmental audits for Air, Water, Waste, SPCC, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining site security and emergency preparedness administrative documentation and assist in performing practice drills, etc.
  • Assist with performing training related to EHS.
  • Assist in conducting EHS audits to help comply with Corporate, State and Federal EHS policies and regulations.
  • Assist in Leading safety teams (ergo, safety committees, risk reduction teams, etc.).
  • Assist in developing programs designed to Continuous Improvement EHS efforts.
  • Assist Operation in achieving overall facility compliance and place focus on moving beyond compliance.
  • Assist in accident investigation and help facilitate the programs and procedures to ensure work related injuries are reported and investigated in order to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Perform Risk Assessments and assist in driving corrective actions and creative solutions.
  • Interface with supervisor and managers regarding health and safety matters.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis, system auditing, and ergonomic task analysis.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining site EHS tasks in Gensuite Compliance Calendar.
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an Environmental or Health & Safety field of study
  • Must be able to organize, direct control and coordinate the services.
  • Critical thinking and good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Advanced PC skills, including training and competence in Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of regulatory and technical materials.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple activities/projects and deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal and teaming skills required

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to use a variety of hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment around metals
  • Sight – hand and eye coordination, depth perception needed to operate, adjust, and quantify chemicals and equipment, vision sufficient to inspect work areas and building for issues and operate computers
  • Hearing – must be able to hear others and warning sounds of forklift and other heavy machinery
  • Speech – must be able to communicate effectively with others while working
  • Smell – must be able to smell various chemicals and gasses
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods – frequent to constant
  • Must be able to squat, stoop, twist, climb, crawl, reach, grasp, and fine manipulation, and bend occasional to frequent
  • Must be able to be able to lift/carry 50+ lbs - occasional
