The Position

This Human Resources Generalist is primarily focused on supporting business leadership by performing HR related duties with detail, accuracy, and professionalism.  The position is located in Rome, NY and provides HR Support to Bartell Machinery Systems in Rome, NY and Bartell Machinery Limited in Telford, UK.  The position reports directly to the Senior HR Manager and will be responsible for coordinating, assisting, or executing a multitude of human resource related activities, goals, and initiatives with detailed follow through and professionalism.  This position leads responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment, affirmative action, leave, enforcing company policies and practices, and employment law compliance and regulation.

Job Description

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary partner for employee engagement, including but not limited to all benefit programs, critical documentation, enrollment, leave, morale, education and communication, training, life and wellness programs, and retirement benefits
  • Administers and assists in the development of various human resource plans and procedures for the company – ensuring an HR Department SOP is in place and updated accordingly.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations
  • Performs excellent customer service in HR functions for all employees
  • Maintains human resource information systems records and compiles reports from the database (HRMS – HRIS)
  • Assists recruitment efforts for all exempt and nonexempt positions, students and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientation
  • Facilitates or provides training to the workforce as directed
  • Maintains, coordinates, and deploys employee recognition programs
  • Leads and partners with HR team and all levels of the company to drive employee engagement strategies and events gaining buy-in and aligning events with department activities and goals
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of HR department in relation to established goals
  • Serve as a consultative partner both to employees and leadership regarding all employee leaves of absence. Maintain proper documentation and tracking of all leaves and ensure employees and leaders are well informed
  • Administer compensation program; write job descriptions, evaluate positions, recommend merit adjustments, promotional increases and annual adjustments to the salary structure and complete wage/salary surveys
  • Collaborate on workers’ compensation claims to ensure smooth transitions for any employees transferring from worker’s compensation to short-term disability/FMLA

Job Specific Requirements        

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent years of related experience
  • Certification in Human Resources preferred

Skills & Relevant Work Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite *Strong in Powerpoint (D365 a plus)
  • Strong working knowledge with HRIS Software Systems (UKG Pro a plus)
  • Familiarity of Business Intelligence (a plus)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer service orientation and effective organization and communication skills
  • Training in employment law, compensation, organization development, employee relations, safety and training preferred
  • Partner with the SR. Human Resource Manager and Heico Corporate Talent Team to manage full cycle recruiting responsibilities, maintaining job descriptions and FLSA classifications, delivering pre-hire skills testing, tracking key talent acquisition metrics, and conducting productive exit interviews; and/or stay interviews.
  • Schedule and facilitate the new employee onboarding and integration process.
  • Create a candidate experience that focuses on inclusive recruitment and hiring practices.
  • Coordinate, assist and communicate an on-going performance management program using company delivered tools.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers on corrective action, PIP’s, IDP’s and goal setting.
  • Ensure all personnel transactions are entered into the UKG Pro system in a timely manner ensuring accuracy in all HRMS/HRIS activities
  • Manage and ensure consistency and accuracy with annual vacation allotment, PPE stipends, and any statutory and company leave programs.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This includes anti-harassment training, code of conduct training, employee handbook training, compliance manual training, etc.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Prepare HR monthly status reports as required.
  • Make all changes to payroll including but not limited to; compensation, promotions, new hires, separations, garnishments, and benefits.
  • Prepares and submits Affirmative Action Plan Report

Employee Relations

  • Provide support toward counseling actions regarding personnel and job-related conflicts, problem solving and dispute resolution.
  • Assist in information gathering and general detail collection to assist Sr. HR Manager with sensitive employee related investigations. Investigating employee concerns in a thorough and balanced manner, seek positive solutions and consistency in policy administration.
  • Work proactively to implement positive employee relations initiatives to improve employee engagement, and retention.
  • Maintain and coordinate employee recognition and service award programs.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of HR related communications (Benefits/OE emails, policy changes, employee newsletter, and announcements, etc.).
  • Champion people initiatives - administer employee recognition awards/events to increase engagement and boost retention.
  • Conduct annual benefits open enrollment and other benefits related programs as needed.
  • Coordinate the administration of all Leave of Absence programs and processes with third party administrator.
  • Serve as advisor to employees regarding benefits, compensation, and recognition.
  • Partner with the Senior HR Manager to monitor wage and hour rules, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Work with Corporate HRIS and Benefits to provide system support and troubleshoot system problems.

 Compliance

  • Coordinate with Senior HR Manager and Legal Counsel on training to ensure Company compliance.
  • Work closely with management and employees to provide guidance regarding policies, procedures, state, and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Maintain employee files ensuring documents and manuals are kept current, accurate, confidential and in compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Communicate and execute necessary changes to policies and procedures.
  • Perform audit and compliance functions as requested on items such as audit reports verification, commission reports and payroll information.
  • Maintain the annual AAP data collection and reporting process.
  • Work with Senior HR Manager on H1B and Work Visa procedures

Other

  • Member of the HR Council and Safety Council.
  • Review payroll changes with platform payroll administrator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility – This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work - This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday thru Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Travel - This position requires occasional travel, including travel outside the local area and overnight.  Some seldom international travel could become essential.

Work Environment - The position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, iPads, phones, copiers and filing cabinets.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fluctuating temperatures, loud noise, fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts.
