Job Description

The Machinist is responsible for the set up and operation of manually controlled machines in skilled precision in the fabrication, maintenance, repair and alteration of machinery, machine parts, tools and equipment.

Responsibilities will include:


  • Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output

  • Layout, measure, and mark material for cutting or shaping

  • Determine appropriate equipment and position or load material for a job

  • Effectively operate equipment, using proven practices and experience, to complete machining operations and monitoring equipment during operation

  • Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects

  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages

  • Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance

  • Provide technical support and assistance to staff and engineers

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment

  • Fabrication of parts as needed, using welding and appropriate cutting equipment

  • Utilize and perform periodic checks of forklifts, scissor lift, and other typical in-plant equipment

  • Maintain production equipment and facilities as required

  • Maintain personal licenses for forklift operation and DOT commercial vehicle operation

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


  • At least 3 years of practical machinist experience

  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to use precision hand tools to take accurate measurements

  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material

  • Mathematical proficiency

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety or concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, blueprint, or schedule form

  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and small to medium commercial vehicles

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship preferred

  • Current chauffers drivers license holder preferable
