The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is primarily responsible for the prevention and elimination of injuries and illness to the environment, all employees, customers, and other visitors to our facility, and grounds.  This position will also be responsible for the company's Continuous Improvement activities such as Kaizen, Kanban and Lean Manufacturing principals along with management of the facility maintenance contractors.

Primary Responsibilities

•        Ensure that Steelastic EHS activities are in full compliance with all related Heico MESH Safety Standards, OSHA, DOT, EPA, & DEC regulations & achieve all Safety Goals established within the Gensuite software system.

•        Maintain All EHS Related Certifications and Training for All Employees, Contractors, and Visitors housed in the Gensuite Software system.

•        Develop a standard and implement an organizational Safety and Cleanliness culture that makes our facility a world class manufacturing operation while creating an atmosphere of personal responsibility and accountability.

•        Other duties as assigned

Essential Functions of the Role

•        Identify and develop the necessary processes, procedures and documentation to Maintain OHSAS 18001: 2007 certification and obtain ISO 9001: 2015 certification

•        Develop a standard and implement an organizational safety and cleanliness culture that makes our facility a world class manufacturing operation -- Work with all departments to support the plant 5S program plan and develop a Safety culture that is embraced by all employees

•        Improve the safety program and culture by expanding awareness while creating accountability and responsibility.

•        Monitor recordable accident and near miss rate

•        Maintain Environmental and ISO Permits

•        Maintain OHSAS 18001 and OSHA Compliance Throughout Building

•        Manage Daily inspection sheets

•        Manage the monthly section safety inspections throughout the building

•        Conduct Monthly Spot Checks of Critical Programs

•        Maintain Contractor Safety Program

•        Proficient in English with excellent written and oral communication skills.

•        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

•        Strong data collection and analysis skills.

•        Strong organization ability.

•        Ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout Company organization.

•        Team player and have ability to work independently

 

Job Requirements

 Education

Bachelor's Degree with 5 or more years related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential)

•        Extensive OHSAS, DOT, EPA, & DEC Regulations and Lean Manufacturing knowledge

•        Extensive knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001: 2007

 Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable)

•        Knowledge of industrial motors and controls

•        Assembly of industrial equipment

•        Machining and fabrication knowledge

•        ERP / MRP Systems knowledge; D365 or ICIM is preferred    

•        Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook

•        Ability to multi task in a fast pace environment

•        Interacts with cross-functional departments within the company while managing the Continuous Improvement events. 

External Contacts:

•        Regular contact with other Heico Companies (Globally)

•        Regular contact with Contractors, Suppliers, and other Service Providers

•        Intermittent contact with Customers and Regulatory Agencies

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly / occasionally required to sit, walk and/or stand.  The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without assistance.  May be needed to work more than 8 hours per day.
