SUMMARY:

The Material Manager will be responsible for the direction of the materials management and purchasing function for the Wakefield Raleigh facility to achieve service and inventory goals.  He/she will work across functional and geographic boundaries to ensure high levels of customer service and satisfaction relative to inventory service levels and management and communication of inventory failures.  The ideal candidate will have experience in the extruded/fabricated aluminum marketplace or, in a position that purchases raw materials to be used in a manufacturing process. 

DESCRIPTION:

• Manage and direct a staff of warehouse clerks
• Manage yearly physical inventory
• Provide analysis and research on all company vendors – ensuring that vendors have the capability to fulfill an order minimizing company risk.
• Responsible for delivery schedules, transport contracts, and timetables, as well as ensuring accountability in the receiving process.
• Achieve material cost objectives.
• Responsible for the company’s financial affairs as it pertains to purchasing.
• Responsible for securing the best possible price on all purchase decisions.
• Negotiates prices and quantities of all purchases and follows a conservative approach to buying in bulk for discount purposes.
• Responsible for managing the department's budgets to ensure adherence to all budgeted limits.
• This position is a hand’s on position in a fast-paced and dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Responsible for the cleanliness of his/her own work area and the general housekeeping of the Company.

REQUIREMENTS: 

• A. or B.S Degree required.
• 10+ years of purchasing experience preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of inventory planning, forecasting techniques as well as operational systems, and warehouse management.
• Inquisitive, detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem-solving.
• International and manufacturing purchasing in a multi-facility organization is preferred.
• Strong verbal/written communication skills and negotiation practices.
• Excellent MS office capabilities are required.

The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job in the Plant or Warehouse, the employee is exposed to noise and aluminum particles. The noise level is usually moderate, but hearing protection may be required in designated areas.  The employee is required to wear safety glasses when in the plant.
