Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: Manage the ordering process ensuring raw materials and domestic goods are procured to meet forecasts and realize the best value.

Position is based in Prattville, AL. Relocation assistance is available.



• Evaluate and compare products and services from suppliers to determine which best meets Kinedyne needs.
• Establish goals and work processes which minimize costs while increasing efficiencies. Reevaluate and improve such processes as necessary. Communicate improvement recommendations to leadership for discussion and possible implementation.
• Form and maintain strong vendor relations.
• Develop new supplier sourcing for existing and new product ideas.
• Solicit vendor quotes, negotiate costs and payment terms, and process purchase orders including entry, maintenance, and close out.
• Identify cost drivers and waste streams with suppliers to optimize processes and materials to drive down costs while maintaining or enhancing quality.
• Establish and administer cost analysis programs and processes for inventory and support item purchases.
• Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.
• Understand and manage the freight requirements for incoming and outgoing freight needs.
• Perform make vs. buy analysis and provide recommendations for best value.
• Handle disposition of nonconforming material (scrap, return, repair).
• Update computer database for purchased inventory items for valuation purposes.
• Reduce the risk of key supplier dependency.


• Working conditions are primarily in a climate-controlled, office setting with time often spent in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.

• Frequent computer use (sitting for extended periods, typing, viewing screen, use of mouse).

• Textile or metals purchasing experience for a manufacturing organization is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply critical thinking in every step during the sourcing process.
• Experience with price analyses, source selection, and justification.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel.
• ERP and MRP experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to perform formula level math to solve narrative problems.


• Related college degree required. At least an Associate’s Degree is required. A Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred.
• CPSM or equivalent certification preferred.


• Prior sourcing experience required.
• At least five years in an industrial environment is required. Seven or more years is preferred.
• A combination of years of experience, advanced education, and industry-specific training and experience may be considered in lieu of the minimum requirements.
