The Position


As a Product Engineer, you will provide support for developing product platforms or catalog parts which may or may not be a result of customer specific requirements or products.  Your primary contribution will be in design, developing a manufacturing process and test plan for successful launch of new or upgraded products.

Reporting directly to the Global VP of Products, you will provide Engineering support to specific Products, Product groups, distributors, contract manufacturers. Some requests can be more complex in nature, and there is a lot of interaction with Assembly and Test personnel or others in need of your product knowledge.

You will work in person with US and Mexico based teams to support the Assembly and Test operations. In some circumstances, you take a lead role for numerous special projects.

Job Description           

Primary Responsibilities of the job are:

  • To collaborate with other staff and departments on the product design, research and development, marketing, and manufacturing teams to create highly functional products that are profitable and meet user needs.
  • You will build a design brief as needed to gauge the design requirements.
  • Conducting and/or using research on user experience and needs, current market trends and general functionality
  • Developing solutions that solve user problems
  • Determining whether a design solution is user-friendly, cost effective and environmentally friendly
  • Creating multiple iterations of design prototypes using computer-aided design tools
  • Conducting rigorous usability tests and modifying the product based on the test results
  • Evaluating design solutions against industry standards and regulations
  • Documenting the design process and presenting progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure that various stages of product development are completed on time by leading, organizing, and requesting constant updates from cross-functional teams.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data and make adjustments to development plans as needed to facilitate a successful new product rollout.
  • Ensure that high standards of reliability, quality, usability, and measurement are adhered to throughout each phase of product development.

 

Job Requirements     

 Education

  • BS in Engineering, (Electrical and Materials preferred) or Physics

 Skills & Relevant Work Experience

  • 3+ years of relevant technical experience in passive components in design and manufacturing
  • Advanced design skill
  • Strong working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) or engineering software
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good project management skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for conceiving, creating and designing useful, innovative products
  • Working knowledge of electronics assembly and test areas, including working with technicians
  • Working knowledge of electronics test and measurement equipment
  • General knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) assembly processes
  • Experience collaborating at all levels of an organization, customers and/or suppliers
  • General knowledge in areas of Root Cause/Corrective Action, Project Planning, and Data Acquisition and Analysis
  • The ability to work on projects individually or as a collaborator of a team
