Job Description

SUMMARY

Ensures processing and forwarding of merchandise. Prepares merchandise to be returned to suppliers or delivered to customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weights, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Become a functional user of the companies ERP System to make all required shipping and receiving transactions in an efficient manner.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment.
  • Builds wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
  • Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal banding, using strapping tools.
  • Posts weight, dimensions, and box type.
  • Routes incoming items to the appropriate departments.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet current Steelastic specifications.
  • Maintains inventory accuracy of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operate overhead crane, forklift truck/tow motor or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping- and-receiving platform to storage or work area.
  • Expected to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a safe manner and according to the standard set by Steelastic.
  • Ensures Visitors (truck drivers, delivery personnel) are issued safety vests, glasses, visitor badges, and safety footwear.
  • Work closely with others to foster a “Team Environment.”
  • Other duties as assigned/requested.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and to operate all types of pneumatic tools.
  • Must have a clean driving record to deliver parts to our outside vendors.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Shipping and Receiving in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Knowledge of international shipments and basic blueprint reading skills considered a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook.
  • ERP/inventory system experience a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as weights proportions and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
