Team Leader
The CNC Machine Operator Lead is responsible for leading a team of CNC machine operators while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role supports daily operations by coordinating workflow, assisting with machine setup and troubleshooting, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring production targets are met. The Lead Operator also serves as a technical resource and mentor for CNC operators.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of CNC machine operators during assigned shifts.
- Coordinate daily production activities to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machines including mills, lathes, or multi-axis equipment.
- Monitor machine performance and ensure adherence to operational procedures.
- Perform first-piece inspections and ensure parts meet specifications and quality standards.
- Train and mentor new and existing CNC operators on equipment, processes, and safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and manufacturing standards.
- Communicate production issues, machine downtime, and quality concerns to supervisors or engineering teams.
- Assist with tooling changes, program verification, and process improvements.
- Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
- Promote continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 3–5+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating CNC mills and/or lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
- Knowledge of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate team members.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a lead, trainer, or supervisory role.
- Experience with CNC programming or editing G-code.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and inspection processes.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metalworking fluids.
- Requires standing for extended periods and lifting materials up to 40–50 pounds as needed.
- May require overtime or shift work, including second or third shift depending on production needs
