Piling Engineer
The Piling Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the planning, design, and execution of deep foundation systems, with a focus on helical pile solutions. Working closely with project managers, estimators, and field crews, the Piling Engineer is responsible for engineering analysis, design documentation, and technical support related to both marine and land-based foundation work. This individual will help optimize pile design and installation methods while ensuring compliance with regulatory and engineering standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform technical design and analysis of pile foundations and other deep foundation systems (helical pile, driven piles, drilled shafts, sheet piling, etc.)
- Assist in geotechnical and structural evaluation of soil conditions, loads, and settlement requirements.
- Interpret and apply data from geotechnical reports to develop pile layouts, embedment depths, and capacity calculations.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, installation plans, and technical submittals.
- Provide engineering support during bidding, preconstruction, and construction phases.
- Support field teams during installation and perform QA/QC checks.
- Interface with clients, engineers, and permitting agencies to address technical questions and ensure project compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Assist in evaluation, tools, and equipment as the company expands its helical capabilities.
- Contribute to safety planning and risk assessments specific to foundation activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related.
- 3–7 years of engineering experience in foundation systems, deep foundations, or heavy civil/marine construction.
- Preferred: Experience in the design and/or installation of helical piles and torque correlation methods.
- Familiarity with marine and waterfront construction environments is a plus.
- Previous experience with engineering software such as RISA, LPile, HeliCAP, Civil 3D, or similar preferred.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal coordination and client interfacing.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed (10–25%).
