Senior Mechanical Designer
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Join a team that designs and builds world-class Tire Shredding equipment! We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to support the design, production, and delivery of custom machinery—including shredders, conveyors, and material handling systems. In response to the increasing demand for our high-quality products, we are seeking to expand our team.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Mechanical Designer supports the successful execution of customer orders from contract review through production and final testing of industrial equipment systems, including shredders, conveyors, and custom machinery. This role blends mechanical design, project coordination, and production support to ensure equipment is delivered on time, within budget, and to specification. A key focus is on ensuring all designs are manufacturable using the company’s in-house fabrication, machining, and assembly capabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering & Design
- Develop and revise 3D CAD models, general arrangement layouts, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles aligned with available internal machines and manufacturing capabilities.
- Prepare detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and product documentation.
- Conduct mechanical analysis, including FEA and stress validation, to ensure system performance.
- Assist with component selection, including motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics, based on design and customer requirements.
Project Coordination
- Manage assigned projects from order intake to final system testing and customer delivery.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, scope, and budgets in alignment with customer expectations and company goals.
- Coordinate cross-functional communication across engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and service teams.
- Identify and mitigate risks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
Production & Customer Support
- Support shop floor activities with clear, manufacturable designs and hands-on troubleshooting.
- Ensure alignment between engineering intent and production reality, validating designs against real-world constraints.
- Assist in testing and validation of equipment to meet customer and regulatory standards.
- Support customer commissioning activities, including technical documentation and on-site support when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7 - 10 years of experience in mechanical design and/or project engineering within custom equipment or industrial machinery sectors.
- Experience coordinating engineering projects in a manufacturing environment; PMP certification is not required, but an asset.
- Expertise in DFM practices and design for welding, machining, and assembly based on internal equipment capabilities.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor) preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficient in SolidWorks is required; AutoCAD and FEA tools are a plus.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques, GD&T, and industry standards (CEMA, OSHA, ISO).
- Understanding of electro-mechanical components such as motors, drives, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Solid command of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Teams.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for internal coordination and customer interaction.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Analytical, hands-on, and solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to travel occasionally for site visits, testing, or commissioning support.
