Supplier Quality Engineer

This role is responsible for ensuring C/A Design Supply Chain is always providing conforming products and services on time to our C/A facilities. The person in this role will also investigate, evaluate, and resolve supplier quality problems as well as conduct audits, analyze defect trends, and lead continuous improvement projects. This supplier quality engineer will engage experts across our organization to proactively mitigate risk and ensure effective resolution of issues as well as engage with Engineering, Quality, Production, Manufacturing, and Procurement team to ensure proper flow down of customer requirements, sourcing decisions, and supplier risk identification. This role will report to the Director, Quality Assurance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strive toward a culture of proactive safety.
- Utilize supplier Scorecards/metrics and analytical tools to quantify the performance levels of individual suppliers and work with those suppliers to develop improvement plans to achieve the organization’s desired performance (Quality and on-Time Delivery).
- Gather and report results from weekly and monthly quality metrics for all assigned suppliers. Communicate effectively to C/A Design leadership and customers through business reviews and status meetings.
- Evaluate and assess the impact of nonconforming products and suppliers’ corrective actions, including timely communication with the supplier, quality director, or both.
- Ensure on-time implementation of corrective actions and verification of action effectiveness.
- Provide oversight of all aspects of product quality relating to assigned suppliers including inspection methods, data collection, data analysis, non-conforming material dispositions, and product/process quality assurance.
- Champion problem-solving and root-cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate the recurrence of non‐conformances.
- Coordinate supplier’s returns with Quality Engineering and/or MRB representative, as applicable.
- Flow down contractual requirements to suppliers based on QMS / part/risk / customer requirements.
- Perform process audits at supplier locations, participate in the PPAP review process and other aspects of APQP, make progress reports, and present findings.
- Perform and Evaluate First Article Inspections per the requirements of AS9102 as well as train suppliers to meet C/A Desing and our customer’s expectations
- Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and quality to identify part and supplier risk for proactive mitigation activities.
- Maintains and monitors C/A Design approved supplier’s list (ASL) to ensure compliance and accuracy with requirements.
- Maintain supplier-related records, including, but not limited to, corrective actions, improvement plans, performance evaluations, deviations, communication, etc.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work on-site due to the nature of our business, work will be conducted on a C/A Design location facility 100% of the time. However, when necessary, SQE must be able to support travel of up to 25%.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree and 2-4+ years work experience or 6-8+ years of experience in lieu of degree.
- AS9102/AS9145/AS9100/ISO9001 experience is required.
- Experience with ERP systems, E2 a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, specifications, and requirements.
- Experience with root cause corrective action investigations preferred.
- Ability to analyze supplier defect/performance data and display it visually.
- L6S Greenbelt a plus.
- Experience working with the manufacturing and coating organizations.
- Experience with metric trending preferred.
- Must be a self-starting problem solver utilizing their analytical skills to find innovative solutions to quality-related issues.
- Proficient in MS Office Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- A strong desire and mindset to drive actions and projects to closure without being prompted is a must.
- Strong communicator capable of working through complex issues with peers, management, and multiple functions is required to ensure suppliers understand requirements and expectations.
- Proven ability to coordinate a team to drive action.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and attention to detail skills.
