The Position

The Environmental Health Safety (EHS) Specialist is primarily responsible for the prevention and elimination of injuries and illness to the environment, all employees, customers, and other visitors to our facility, and grounds.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Steelastic EHS activities are in full compliance with all related Heico MESH Safety Standards, OSHA, DOT, EPA, DEC regulations achieve all Safety Goals. Monitor and maintain accurate records.
  • Identify and develop the necessary processes, procedures and documentation to Maintain OHSAS 18001 Certification
  • Maintain All EHS Related Certifications and training for All Employees, Contractors, and Visitors
  • Develop a standard and implement an organizational safety and cleanliness culture that makes our facility a world class manufacturing operation -- Work with all departments to support the plant 5S program and develop a Safety culture that is embraced by
    all employees
  • Improve the safety program and culture by expanding awareness while creating accountability and responsibility.
  • Monitor recordable accident and near miss rate
  • Maintain Environmental Permits
  • Maintain OHSAS Compliance and monthly safety inspections throughout facility
  • Manage Daily inspection sheets
  • Conduct Monthly Spot Checks of Critical Programs
  • Maintain Contractor Safety Program
  • Complete required Safety and Legal Training as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum of an Associate Degree and job-related work experience in related production environment

Knowledge, Skills Experience

  • Applied knowledge and working understanding of OHSAS, DOT, EPA, DEC Regulations and Environmental Health and Safety Management Systems such as OHSAS 18001

  • Knowledge of OHSAS and Workers Compensation Guidelines

  • Proficient in English with excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong data collection and analysis skills

  • Strong organization ability

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout Company organization

  • Team player and have ability to work independently

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook

  • Regular Attendance

  • Ability to multi task in a fast pace environment

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly/occasionally required to sit, walk and/or stand. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds without assistance. May be needed to work more than 8 hours per day.
