Environment, Safety and Health Coordinator

National Strand Products has an immediate need for a Safety Coordinator in Houston, TX. The Houston facility is a leading manufacturer of high carbon galvanized steel strand supporting the utility and telecommunication markets with 70 employees. This position reports to the Plant Manager but will work closely with a network of business level and corporate level EHS professionals to deliver programs and performance that meet or exceeds the criteria of federal, state and business requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

Maintain strong working relationships with the extended EHS support structure including corporate EHS, platform/regional EHS, and external resources.
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety training, risk assessment and compliance programs; conduct periodic reviews, communicate specific company and regulatory safety requirements and verify compliance; maintain training schedules, records and files.
Support the establishment of procedures for setting, measuring, documenting and maintaining high standards of safety throughout the plant; determine safety requirements in accordance with laws, regulations, plant and company needs.
Organizes and promotes plant-wide safety improvements
Conducts site inspections to assess compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements;
Maintain the facilitys electronic EHS management systems.
Coordinate the timely and accurate preparation of required EHS reports, both internal and external.
Develops and conducts training sessions, including safe work procedures and workshops, site specific toolbox training, new equipment training, annual refresher training, fire drills and new employee orientation and site specific safety and quality training.
Act as the point of contact for all internal safety inquiries and supports the Plant Manager on external safety inquiries from regulatory agencies.
Assists the Plant Manager with implementation of environmental programs such as hazardous materials waste disposal and permit compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Technical training in the disciplines of safety, quality or EHS compliance. Formal degree in these disciplines is a plus but not required.
Safety experience in a manufacturing environment
Excellent organizational, decision making, human relations and communications skills;
Ability to manage multiple demands
Proven capability to collaborate with non-professional as well as professional stakeholders at all levels;
OSHA 30-hour certification preferred;
Competence or fluency in Spanish a plus but not required;
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
