Job Description

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is a highly important and valued member of the ARDCO Team. This individual will diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment for heavy machinery in construction, oil and gas and logging. Most repairs are completed at the facility in New Iberia, LA, and some completed on job sites. As such the Heavy Equipment Mechanic position requires travel at short notice and must have the ability to effectively coordinate with other Service personnel. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and maintain a positive relationship with our customers during service issues.

Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers specifications
Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings
Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency
Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
Examine parts for damage or excessive wear
Some mig and stick welding skills preferred
Regular and consistent attendance is required

Job Requirements

Valid drivers license, CDL preferred
Possess or able to acquire valid department of transportation medical examiners certificate
Knowledge of heavy equipment product design, operation and applications
Strong mechanical skills with diesel engines, drive shafts, axles, transfer cases and different hydraulics
Good oral and written communication skills
Must have own tools

Repair and maintenance in non-climatic controlled shop environment; exposure to fumes, odors, gasoline, solvents, cleaners, oils, and other related liquids; exposure to all weather when conducting field repairs, work on slippery or uneven surface; environment involves noise and work with moving objects and vehicles; work closely with others and work alone.

Physical Conditions:
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying which includes the ability to lift up to eighty pounds; adequate vision and hearing required; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, both hands, and both legs required; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
Maintain mental capacity that permits making sound judgments regarding work and have regular attendance.
