Payroll Specialist

Davis Wire Corporation seeks a well-qualified Payroll Specialist at its Irwindale, CA location. This position will manage all payroll related duties and responsibilities for approximately 500 employees across 5 states. The right candidate will possess comprehensive experience in processing payroll, making pay adjustments, managing deductions processing garnishments and preparing monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting.

Beyond payroll, the right candidate would be capable of taking on additional responsibilities, such as account payable, to assist the accounting department.

Duties

  • Process payroll for 5 locations (CA, TX, OK, MI & WA)
  • Set up new state jurisdictions as needed
  • Validates accuracy of pay computations
  • Conducts final review and approval of time records
  • Adjusts payroll records
  • Audits and adjusts sick and vacation accrual balances as required
  • Confirms accuracy of payroll taxes on all pay runs. Validates and reconciles quarterly payroll tax statements and annual W2s. Works with Accounting Manager, IT and third-party payroll provider on payroll audit reports
  • Processes legally required wage garnishments and court ordered deductions
  • Ability to research and implement compliance issues related to wages and payroll for multiple states
  • Complete working knowledge of FLSA
  • Experience managing payroll for union populations
  • Comprehensive understanding of state & federal labor laws
QualificationsBasic Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience processing payroll
  • Minimum of 1 year processing multi-state payroll
  • Comprehensive understanding of FLSA and California labor, wage & hour laws
  • Strong knowledge of tax and wage laws
  • Good understanding of the common fiscal procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional multitasking and organizational skills
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in business or accounting preferred
  • Experience managing payroll and processing through Ultimate Time Management (UTM) on the Ultimate Software platform
  • Experience with internal and external payroll audits for compliance
  • Additional accounting, accounts payable, general ledger, HR experience and/or knowledge a plus
