The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for planning and conducting studies to improve the operational and financial controls of the unit; performs statistical, cost and financial analysis of financial reports and data, and oversees the daily financial reporting; utilizes knowledge of the companys financial accounting systems; assist with month-end processes and corporate reporting; assist with the creation of dashboard reports/metrics for the management team; annual coordination with internal auditors, various tax preparation/filings, and special projects as needed.

Responsibilities will include:

Analyzes financial data and extracts and defines relevant information; interprets data for determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability

Reviews costs and performs cost benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs

Develops financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis

Performs statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported in the various accounting systems

Interprets financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions

Participate in the month-end close process; including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, variance to budget and prior month analysis, and financial reporting to corporate

Streamline the process where possible

Assist in the companys annual audit

Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies

Provide assistance on special projects as requested by Controller and/or corporate office

Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and/or reports

Assist/coordinate physical inventory audits for the plant and field locations

Prepares fixed asset listing and reconciles to the general ledger

Ensure that each asset has been tagged and recorded

Other ad-hoc reporting as identified by Controller or business-unit leaders

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance

Successful prior financial analysis, support and controls

Proven results in general ledger maintenance and month-end close Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of management and technical personnel within the Spartan organization

Effective negotiation skills

Problem solving and innovative skills, including ability to analyze, interpret, understand and successfully resolve issues within the best interests of Spartan Tool

Demonstrated competencies in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Outlook

Excellent communications skills: oral, written and presentation

Detail-oriented

Professionalism with consistent ability to balance urgency and decisiveness with patience and compassion

Discretion in managing proprietary information belonging to the company

Demonstrated ability to manage assigned responsibilities independently

Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively and multi-task
