Mobile Service Technician
OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Service Technician to join our field service team, specialising in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mobile hydraulic shredding systems. This role involves working directly at customer sites, performing preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and providing technical support to ensure optimal machine performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on mobile hydraulic shredding equipment (hydraulics, mechanical and electrical systems).
- Troubleshoot hydraulic circuits, pumps, manifolds, motors and other fluid power components.
- Conduct mechanical repairs including gearboxes, bearings, hydraulic components, shredding assemblies and drive systems.
- Interpret and work from hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical schematics.
- Maintain, inspect and service PTO-driven systems on mobile units.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on control panels, sensors, relays and wiring systems.
- Execute preventative maintenance schedules (PMS) and maintain service logs.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency service support outside of standard hours.
- Provide on-site technical support to customers, delivering professional communication and service excellence.
- Ensure all work complies with OSHA/HSE safety standards.
- Document service activities, parts usage and technical reports accurately.
- Travel to customer locations as needed (nation wide travel with occasional overnight stays).
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years of hands-on experience servicing mobile hydraulic equipment or heavy machinery.
- Proficient in hydraulic system diagnostics & repairs (including reading schematics).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in repair and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Basic working knowledge of electrical control systems (12V/24V DC).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call rotation and overtime as needed.
- Valid UK driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable working independently in the field with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift, carry and handle heavy tools and components.
- Previous experience with working on HGV mobile hydraulic systems would be an advantage.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification in Hydraulic Fluid Power (IFPS) or equivalent.
- Experience with industrial shredding systems (waste management, forestry, recycling, or scrap industry).
- Familiarity with PLC controls and diagnostic software.
- Welding/fabrication skills
