About the Company

Electric Eel Products, based in Springfield Ohio, has been a major supplier of quality sewer and drain cleaning equipment since 1939. Originally known for the Model C dual cable sectional machine, the company has continually expanded their line of products over the years.  We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on General Manager to oversee all plant operations and drive performance, profitability, and growth.

Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and profitability of the manufacturing facility. Reporting to an offsite President, the GM will ensure that production, quality, safety, financial, and customer goals are consistently met or exceeded. This individual will be both strategic and tactical—capable of managing day-to-day operations while developing and executing long-term improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to all departments (production, maintenance, quality, purchasing, logistics, and administration).
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, train, and develop staff; ensure alignment with company values and objectives.
  • Act as the primary on-site leader and liaison to the offsite President, providing timely communication and regular operational updates.

Operations Management

  • Oversee all aspects of plant operations, including scheduling, production efficiency, quality assurance, safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure products are manufactured safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Implement and track KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to measure performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead or support lean manufacturing, process optimization, and cost reduction initiatives.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Manage plant-level P&L responsibility, including budgeting, cost control, and forecasting.
  • Work with accounting staff to track inventory, production costs, and margins.
  • Approve purchasing and capital expenditures within established authority levels.
  • Identify and execute opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

Customer & Supplier Relations

  • Support the President and sales team with production planning, lead-time commitments, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and service providers.
  • Ensure that customer orders are fulfilled accurately and delivered on time.

Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion a safe work environment and ensure consistent adherence to policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, materials management, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, lead teams, and improve operational performance.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing a small to mid-sized facility ($5M–$30M revenue range).
  • Working knowledge of ERP/manufacturing software systems.
