Job Description

The Ideal Candidate has demonstrated experience engaging the workforce in adopting behavioral base safety. Assists the Director of Operations and Vice President/General Manager with planning, directing, and implementing organizational environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment.

* Please take note that National Strand will be relocating to 3959 Oscar Nelson Junior Drive in Baytown, Texas, 77523. Up until the transition is complete, all training and work assignments will be carried out in 12611 Cain Circle, Houston, Texas 77015.

Job Description

•         Conducts environmental and safety inspections; formulates corrective or preventive actions and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

•         Completes and submits environmental reports required by various agencies.

•         Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

•         Assists Plant Training Facilitator to plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in occupational safety practices.

•         Completes reports and investigations of industrial accidents/incidents and their root causes for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

•         Provides guidance to management and supervisors relating to investigations of accidents and injuries; cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations in conjunction with Human Resources.

•         Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to eliminate employee industrial accidents, working in tandem with the Human Resources department.

•         Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.

•         Maintains files and records pertaining to safety and environmental issues.

•         Takes a lead role in administering the safety committee.

•         Enters and tracks safety and environmental data in electronic format.

•         Reports to senior management on safety performance and proposes actions to continuously improve.

•         Organizes safety initiatives and events in the facility to promote a culture of safety first.

•         Monitors and tracks employee concern reports and follows-up to ensure actions have been completed.

Job Requirements

•         Minimum 5 years of industrial EHS experience.

•         Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering, safety, environmental or related science is a plus.

•         Strong working knowledge of applicable EHS laws and regulations, state, local, and federal

•         Excellent time management, project coordination and organizational skills

•         Strong analytical skills and ability to leverage data to make/gather support for business decisions

•         Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, as well as calculate figures and amounts such as: discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

•         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

•         Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

•         Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

•         Ability to think strategically and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

•         Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

•         Strong team building and team-participation skills

•         Ability to both teach and learn

•         Strong oral and written communication skills with an ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and work in a team environment

•         Must be able to use Excel, Word, and Outlook.

•         Certification in an EHS related discipline and/or further education is a plus.

•         Authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
