The Position

The VP of Finance is a member of the Finance Department and a key strategic partner to the President of Bartell Machinery Systems.  The VP of Finance manages, leads, and directs all financial planning and budget management functions to ensure company accounting procedures and reporting conform to generally accepted accounting principles. 

Job Description

Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate all financial planning and budget management functions
    • Manage the preparation of Financial Outlooks and Forecasts
      • Facilitate cross-functional dialogue with Sales & Operations to develop Sales Plans
      • Work with department heads to create a detailed Expense Budget
      • Develop and maintain a detailed Budget at the Trial Balance level
    • Work with department managers to develop five-year business plans
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance
    • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget
  • Oversee daily operations of the finance and accounting department
    • Perform Reconciliation reviews
    • Ensure key financial control performance and maintenance
    • Serve as primary source for Financial guidance and insight into Operational activities
  • Manage the preparation of all financial reports
    • Direct report writing and distribution activities
    • Create and maintain processes & procedures to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions
    • Payback and historical contribution analyses
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements
    • Work with Heico Corporate Treasury and Tax Departments towards these goals
  • Support Bartell Strategic Goals & Objectives
    • Be a core member of Bartell Leadership team, with input in creating long term strategic plans in support of Heico goals of long-term growth and sustainability
    • Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures in support of Bartell Strategic Goals
  • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives
    • Coordinate with Team members in creating individual goals to support career development and growth while simultaneously support Bartell objectives and Strategic direction
    • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff
  • Utilize Power BI and PlanBase to trend and report various financial performance measures
  • Serve on planning and policy-making committees
  • Participate with Internal and External financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Represent the company externally to government agencies, auditors, and the general public
  • Provide accounting policy orientation for new staff

 Job Specific Requirements


  • Master’s Degree (preferred) or B.S. in Finance, Accounting or Business with strong Accounting experience.

Skills & Relevant Work Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in mid to senior level finance or accounting position and a CPA (preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong working knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite (D365 a plus)
  • Strong working knowledge with MS Power BI
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Experience in Government contracts a plus.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Candidate should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Supervisory Responsibility – This position has supervisory responsibilities with performance management requirements

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work - This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Travel - This position requires occasional travel, including travel outside the local area and overnight.  Some seldom international travel could become essential.

Work Environment - The position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, iPads, phones, copiers and filing cabinets.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fluctuating temperatures, loud noise, fumes, or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts.
