Job Description

Set up semi-automatic compression molding presses throughout department on all jobs. 

Assist operators and trainees with their operational problems. 

Select molds and inserts for various jobs per the schedule.

Install mold in press, connect steam lines to mold, adjust knock out bars, travel of ram, pressure and heat to meet varying requirements. 

Adjust process as needed assuming press pressure, temperature, stroke and timing are usually specified.

Perform miscellaneous related work as assigned.

Must know and follow all plant, departmental and job safety rules.

Must know, understand and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of and follow all applicable safe operating procedures and rules including housekeeping requirements.

Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements necessary for this skill or job area.

Make sample shots for Quality Control first article on standard, current production processes (not development or complex jobs)

Participate in training new setup personnel.

With the aid of Dept Lead/Supervisor, assign work scheduled for setup and molding personnel.

Check molds for damage or excessive wear for each job. Inspect cavities and cores, and pins. Write up a mold maintenance request as needed and take mold to tool room staging area.

Use proper certified equipment to move molds and department machinery. Use approved PPE as proscribed by policy.

Perform simple mold pin change overs as required.

Coordinate with tool room on more difficult change- overs as required.

Work with tool room and Department Supervisor to implement SMED(Single Minute Exchange of Dies)/rapid changeovers.

Participate in training new setup personnel to perform mold pin change overs as required.

Willing to complete additional duties as assigned, such as work in other departments as needed.

Specific Training, Knowledge, Skills Required:
  • Fluency in English
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic math skills able to read, write, add and subtract whole numbers.
  • One to three years of prior mold setting experience, preferably in plastic industry.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires excellent mobility and use of proper lifting techniques to avoid injury.
  • Legible penmanship.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous knowledge of compression molding processes.
  • Forklift experience a plus, must be able to pass forklift certification.
